Lörrach

The careful positioning of the new building elements on the site facilitates, both, an optimal interconnection of the site with the surrounding areas and an attractive series of diverse external spaces. The volume and the height of the planned elements fits harmoniously into the surrounding urban fabric; proportions and distances between the buildings enable optimal sunlight and daylight conditions between new and existing elements. The spatial dialogue between existing and the new creates a flowing and continuous outdoor space – an urban sequence of paths and courtyards, which are enlivened through public functions in the ground level zones.Through this the urban design concept sustainably raises the quality of the neighbouring quarters, and creates a modern urban centre which flows gently into the green space along the river.

Developed from the existing terrain morphology present in the landscape between meadow and Teichmattenquartier a distinctive topography evolves on multiple layers; taking on its flowing forms. The planned re-naturising of the meadow is incorporated with modifications, and the intended line of the dam is reworked slightly.  The approach is a close to nature, unpretentious, logical landscape, which can serve as a changing background for different uses.
