Kaiserebersdorf

The approximately 11 ha site of the urban design study for the MA 21B is located in Kaiserebersdorf in the 11th Viennese district. Following extensive analysis of the site five options with different approaches where produced.
The surrounding infrastructure, particularly the emissions from the near by motorway and the electrical substation located on the site, where important parameters in all of the approaches and this considerably influenced how the site was dealt with.

While three of the options are primarily based on a Kleingartenkonzept (small garden concept), two further options allow themselves a possible reinvention of the site as an urban living quarter with a multitude of offerings; responding to the demands of the existing surroundings. The proposed density relates well to the existing neighbourhood; following urban design homogeneity without ignoring its variety. Generous semi-public or public outdoor spaces (recuperation, relaxation) are offered; additional functions such as schools and local shopping facilities are intended to not just serve the residents of the development. The efficient circulation reduces the proportion of public space, resulting in economically interesting investment opportunities for potential developers.
As an overall urban concept, the various options offer a high-quality expansion of the city which ensures it is attractive to future inhabitants, even if sited on the edge ofVienna.
