Perfektastraße - Vienna

(quoted from „emerging architecture I”, Otto Kapfinger, 2000)

Competition project for a narrow property situated next to an elevated transitline. The higher volume contains flats on the ground floor and doubly stacked maisonettes along arcaded passages above, while the lower structure consists of two-storied row houses. The ground-floor apartments have private gardens, upper floor residents have to access to roof gardens on the 4th floor and – from the arcaded passages via short bridges – to the green roof of the lower tract.

A complexly organized spatial profile in a building structure that, despite its compact linearity, envisages a high degree of openness, transparency, access to outdoor space on all floors, buffer zones and pathways. Skeleton structure with prefabricated façade elements, the roof terraces feature photovoltaic walls. An additive, straightforward ground plan that allows for a flexible usage of the units. Both blocks are connected by a naturally lit underground garage and a system of bridged-over and crossed-over pathways.
